Game Rules

The rules of the Pacman game are really simple. Here is a list of some of the basic rules that one needs to follow when playing the game:

  • The hero of the game is “Pacman”. He collects points by gobbling up all the scattered dots around the whole perimeter of the room.
  • There is something called the Power Pellet that is placed in each corner of the room. They are easily distinguishable as they are slightly bigger than the other scattered dots.
  • The first ghost (whichever) that you end up eating is going to grant you a total of 200 points. For each additional entity/ghost that you eat, you are going to get double points.
  • When a player finally reaches a score of 10,000 pts. they are going to be granted an additional life.

Tip: You need to keep in mind that the additional life that you get granted only happens once in a single game. Hence, use it very wisely!

Here is a list of some of the more unknown facts about the game of Pacman that you might not know about:

There’s A Card Game Version

Did you know that there is a card version of the game as well? It was not that popular as compared to its arcade game counterpart though!

Pizza Influenced The Game Design

The original designer of the game took inspiration from pizza. This was Toru Iwatani’s idea to base the game design that way.

When performing the original research on what to base the character design off of – he saw a picture of a cut out slice of pizza. That is how our very own pacman got its shape from.

The Max Score Was Achieved After Twenty Years

The designers of this popular Pacman arcade game didn’t know about the problem of “split screen level” at first! But then one day a person named Billy Mitchell made the highest score of 3,333,360 and played the last possible level of the game.

He was the one who discovered the problem of split screen in the last level of the game – which made it impossible to beat that level. It took him a total of 6 hours to beat the game!

You can try making a Pacman 30th anniversary highest score in honor of the game this year.

Got Voted As The “Worst Ever Game”

Can you believe this? Well, neither can I to be honest! This much hyped was originally at first considered to be a messy disaster after its initial release.

This was so because the characters would flicker and that would make it impossible to beat the game.

The original version also lacked a lot of features in it, unlike how we see it today.

Different Ghosts Have Different Personas

All of the ghosts of the game have different personalities so the key to winning this game is figuring out how they behave and their mannerisms.

There are four ghosts in total – Blinky, Clyde, Pinky, and Inky.

The Game Was Made For Attracting Women – Not In A Creepy Way

This was not done creepily though! Arcade games are often male-targeted, so this particular arcade game was made in a way that appeals to the younger female audience. Toru Iwatani (the game designer) thought of making the game with characters that are kawaii (cute) in appearance.

Tip: There are no pacman 30th anniversary cheats available out there. Just try and play the game at your own pace – no need to cheat.

‘Erotic Version’ Of Pacman Is A Thing

There was an unofficial version of the game that got released as well – it was named the “Streaking”. It was released by a manufacturer named Shoei. It was a major controversial move at the time when it was released.

The game was very comical. In this version of the game, the player had to control a streaker rather than the character of “Pacman” in the game.

Various policemen replaced the ghosts that were there in the original game.
