Google’s Plans To Fight The Allegations Of The Doj

Google’s Plans

The trial marks the nation’s first high-profile tech antitrust case in decades, following the successful prosecution of Microsoft for antitrust violations more than two decades ago.

In this case, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and a group of state attorney generals (AGs) claim that Google used exclusivity agreements with browser manufacturers such as Apple and phone makers that use Google’s Android operating system (Android) to prevent competitors from competing in the search market as a whole.

The AGs will also claim that Google did not make its own search advertising tool (SaaS) interoperable with Bing (Microsoft’s Bing) in order to maintain advertising spending on its own services. Google’s distribution agreements have not impaired competition in search.

Walker cites platforms such as TikTok, Reddit, and Instagram, as well as Amazon — a group that is larger than direct competitors such as Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s DuckDuckGo, which the government classifies as the relevant market.
